About Me

John Staples is a singer-songwriter based in Chicago, writing and performing everything from Classic Rock to 21st-Century Americana/Bluegrass! He is currently producing a new CD to be released in 2015. John also writes instrumental music for royalty free/stock libraries, produces music videos and designs artist/band websites under his Leatherwing Studios label.

John has been described as a “darker Johnny Cash” and has been compared to Gordon Lightfoot, John Prine, Jerry Garcia, Warren Zevon, Lou Reed, Bob Seger and Townes Van Zandt. His songs evoke comments such as, “beautiful and honest”, “really deep and really cryptic yet crystal clear”, “Painful and beautiful at the same time!” and “the deviation into darker territory is intoxicating.”

Anyone who has only heard one or two of John Staples’ songs has many delightful hours of listening ahead as each of his songs is unique and fresh! As one fan put it “I come into your songs knowing I’ll hear something fantastic, and when the song ends, I’m never, ever disappointed.”
