About Me
Denise Isaacson has been the Music Director at Unity Truth Center since 2005. The daughter of a Methodist minister, she has been active in sacred music since childhood, both vocally and instrumentally. Denise plays piccolo, flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, all the saxophones, bassoon and piano. In her career as a professional musician Denise performs with big name stars and shows touring Florida. She has performed with many stars including Johnny Mathis Olivia Newton John Bernadette Peters Robert Goulet Shirley Jones Jerry Lewis Aretha Franklin Patti Austin Marie Osmond Joel Grey Marvin Hamlisch Don Rickles Joan Rivers Connie Francis Frankie Avalon Fabian Tommy Tune The Temptations The Four Tops Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme. She has played several national Broadway tours including South Pacific A Chorus Line Sweet Charity Guys & Dolls Some Like it Hot White Christmas Cinderella 42nd Street My Fair Lady and The King & I. Denise also plays for many local theatre companies bands and symphonies. Denise is the President and Executive Director of the Richey Community Orchestra Pasco County‚Äôs only symphony orchestra. She has been a member of and principal clarinet with the group since 1972. Whether it’s a tender love song that pulls at your heartstrings or helps you mend a broken heart, a folk ballad that gives you a glimpse into her story or a melodic spiritual chant which has you singing along and tapping your foot, you will immediately want to hear more. Her sweet, melodic voice seems to come from the angels, but it’s her lyrics, which draw you in and make you feel like you are not alone; like a friend who understands what it’s like to travel this path we call life. Her music so completely tells a story, gives you a new way to look at a situation and reminds us all that we are loved, we are blessed and love will always win at the end of the day……that you walk away changed at depth, with a little more bounce in your step and humming a new tune……literally. It’s like Joni Mitchell meets Melissa Etheridge meets Alison Krauss and Eva Cassidy. Debbie Schrodt is best described as a contemporary inspirational writer/singer comfortable with multiple music styles including folk rhythm & blues Christian country and jazz that all seem to whisper in the background of her original compositions. She believes that music should touch people‚Äôs hearts and lives in a way that challenges them to do greater things and live a more fulfilling life. For Debbie music is an outlet to express her deepest emotions love vibrations and spiritual consciousness. Debbie‚Äôs granddaddy told her that if she really loved music then she had better follow her heart. She took his advice and developed her vocal piano and guitar skills initially through self teaching but Rev. Thomas P. Lane who was at the time Music Minister of Bellevue Baptist Church a mega church in Memphis TN recognized Debbie‚Äôs talent and arranged for her to receive vocal scholarships to study with prominent Memphis voice instructors Sarah Beth Causey and India Van Duyn. Debbie also studied briefly at Bob Jones University and Liberty University. She finished her training at Belmont University with Marjorie Halbert and vocal styles coach Jeanine Walker earning a Bachelor of Music degree with a major in voice and a music business emphasis. Debbie played in some Nashville churches pizza parlors lounges and coffee houses and performed at The famed Bluebird Cafe and many Nashville songwriters open mic nights. She met and worked with numerous other singer/songwriters. Some of her original songs were performed by fellow students in their senior recitals at Belmont University. Some of her songs were published under the Blackwood Music Publishing Company and the Arista Music Publishing company and pitched to artists like Michele Pilar Crystal Gayle Tanya Tucker and Sandi Patti. Thinking that having a day job in the music business might bring her closer to people who could help her own career Debbie (while maintaining a full time job managing an electronic store) interned in the Benson Record Company A&R department and later landed an extremely coveted position in the MCA Nashville Marketing & Sales division. A few short years later the Pop and R & B Music Division of MCA Records moved her to Atlanta as the South East Regional Sales & Marketing Manager. While it was rewarding to meet and work with many famous people regularly and to help other new artists achieve their goals Debbie was never really satisfied because she couldn‚Äôt help everyone who asked and because her own dreams ended up taking the back burner‚Ķbut there they always simmered‚Ķ Debbie‚Äôs changing career and life circumstances took her from Nashville to Atlanta then to Houston and East Tennessee and finally back to Atlanta again. Regardless of how she made a living her dream of being a self-supporting highly successful singer songwriter followed her all the way. She feels blessed to be where she is today. Part of the push Debbie needed to get back on track came from the words written by Marianne Williamson from “A Return to Love” words that spoke to Debbie‚Äôs heart: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure…You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There‚Äôs nothing enlightened about shrinking so other people won‚Äôt feel insecure around you.”” Rev”” Debbie is currently the Worship Leader and Events Producer at Unity North Atlanta Church one of the larger Unity churches in the Southeast and enjoys the ability to utilize her talents to minister to a wonderful and thriving congregation there.
